The canvas was painted by a famous Spanish artist at the beginning of 1936, it has a brightly political and military orientation, since it expresses the painter's opinion about the situation prevailing in Spain at that time, namely, the eve of the Civil War.

The paintings are written in the style typical of Dali, that is, replacing the usual things with what they are, or vice versa are not in reality. So, on the canvas you can clearly see 2 cannibals devouring each other from the inside, at the same time warring and loving each other. It is clear to everyone who knows the history of Spain at that time that cannibals are tearing the country apart and eating it from the inside, the citizens themselves taking one side or another in the war, for which other countries readily prepared weapons and other auxiliary means for them.

That is why cannibals are eaten not with hands, but with the help of cutlery - forks and spoons. Around their bodies, objects resembling bones are scattered in disorder, and the bodies themselves lie on a chest of drawers, one of the drawers of which is ajar. Ants scurry about everywhere, which the artist always has to do with destruction.

In the background, blushing red from the fire, or the blood of the earth, or rather what is left of it, trees shine with dark silhouettes. The foreground of the picture is well lit, while in the distance darkness is already approaching in the form of a floating cloud, which seems to be no reason in the clear sky. And it is not clear to the end this cloud, or the smoke of future battles.

Soon after painting, Dali leaves his homeland and leaves for America, not wanting to be drawn into the ongoing massacre. In America, indestructible success awaited him, and the paintings began to be bought up with renewed vigor, everyone wanted to know how he felt the Spaniard away from his homeland, what he felt, and the artist was very willing to surprise and amaze the connoisseurs of his work.
